Tanpa front camera lagi!!
Walaupun jarang dipakai, tapi video call ini salah satu fitur yang paling menarik. Terutama saat2 suasana dekat lebaran/hari raya ini.
Lagipula, dengan menghilangkan front camera, apa signifikan pengaruh harganya? Kalo ga ya sayang sekali.

Exciting top secret stuff: Sony Ericsson reveals unfinished wireless audio system

Yesterday, Sony Ericsson gave a lucky few a sneak preview of an early sample of their completely wireless home audio music system, which they've been working on in a secret Sony Ericsson location somewhere. Their latest venture is so secret, they had it hidden underneath a velvet blanket and had a security guard and everything to make sure *no-one* had a camera! It was pretty top secret stuff. It's not ready quite yet though. There's a bit of tweaking, design and audio quality improvements, trimming and some system optimising to be done. Only when they've added these last special touches will it be ready to provide wireless audio across households worldwide. By the end of the year is the goal.

What I can tell you is, it's a 2.1 audio system with subwoofer (to crank up that base), an OLED display and can pair up to five devices. It also packs in FM radio, bass and treble controls, touch controls and a range of other specs the rep reeled off a little too quickly for me to jot down. I can tell you this though, it's a very very nice piece of audio equipment and would add a touch of panache to any room. Needless say Sony Ericsson is *very* excited about this one.

I'd love to tell you its name, however Sony Ericsson couldn't disclose it - they'd have to kill us and that wouldn't be good for anyone.

Rumored: Sony Ericsson Interested in Android for Future Xperia?

Sony Ericsson had some problems with the full integration of Windows Mobile in their first Xperia phone. People noticed it but the Xperia wasn’t delayed to 2009. Now after the official release of G1, the world first handset wearing an Android OS, it’s reported that Sony Ericsson officials are considering the open-source OS for their future generation of Xperia smartphones.

Sony Ericsson president, Dick Komiyama said that his company is interestd in Android but they aren’t ready to adopt it yet. But they will be ready won’t they? Is Microsoft ready to see its Windows Mobile replaced with Android?

Sony Ericsson expands its sustainability credentials with the launch of its environmental warranty and the GreenHeart™ phone

Lund, Sweden – September 24, 2008 – Today marked the launch of Sony Ericsson’s environmental warranty, and the concept of Sony Ericsson GreenHeart™ phones, just two initiatives the company is taking to further its commitment to a sustainable future and continually reducing its impact on the environment.

Environmental warranty

The launch of Sony Ericsson’s environmental warranty means that now, when any Sony Ericsson product is taken to a designated collection point, Sony Ericsson will recycle this product in an environmentally sound way. This warranty is valid globally, regardless of where the product was originally purchased, as Sony Ericsson strives to show its support for ‘individual producer responsibility’ (IPR).

Sony Ericsson has long-since participated in and supported the development of common industry systems that relate to the collection and recycling of old mobile phones and accessories. Launching its own collection points and system means that Sony Ericsson will be able to further strengthen its commitment to taking responsibility for the products it sold to consumers.

This new initiative has now been initiated in India, Taiwan, China, Thailand, Singapore USA and Mexico. To date, more than 500 collection points are already in operation. Sony Ericsson intends to complete this rollout by 2009 in all the countries in which it operates. The company’s solely-owned collection points will be primarily made available in those countries where the current industry-standard system of phone recycling have been judged to be too limited.

Sony Ericsson also plans to develop the way in which it spreads information about this new initiative through its customer help desks and over the internet. The aim is to give consumers easy access to information on their nearest recycling drop off point.

GreenHeart™ phones

As a company that puts environmental sustainability at the heart of its product development, Sony Ericsson wanted to explore new ideas in this area through a concept design study.

The GreenHeart™ is a full concept with all life cycle in mind it includes features such as bio-plastic housings, recycled plastic keypads, zero charger with 3.5mW standby power, HTML based e-manuals, a game style educational application ‘Ecomate’ and environmentally conscious packaging.

This concept has been shared with a few selected partners in the industry, whose response has been extremely positive. Sony Ericsson will therefore take this concept and initiate a two-way conversation with customers on what features they believe should be implemented in future phones and in what priority.

Environmentally, all of Sony Ericsson products live up to the extremely high standards that are expected by the industry. Pursuing policies such as the global phase out of unwanted substances, and being a leader in charger performance, is included in all our current product offerings. This is also recognised by external organisations worldwide, with Greenpeace, for example, naming Sony Ericsson as the ‘greenest electronics company’ for 2008. With the GreenHeart™ concept however, Sony Ericsson is looking to the future, to ensure the full life cycle of a mobile phone can be made more environmentally friendly. Once the technology reaches maturity, new techniques and materials will then be included in the portfolio and a market wide launch. One ‘eco’ product by itself will not make a difference but by learning through this concept study we are ensuring the entire portfolio in future will be more sustainable.

A day in the kitchen of Sony Ericsson [Wed 24 Sept, 2008, 19:30]

Today we departed at 8 hours by bus from Copenhagen to Lund at the brand new office of Sony Ericsson to spend the day with presentations and workshops around the Swedish-Japanese brand.

Laat ik beginnen met te vertellen dat, zoals al voorspeld was, er inderdaad geen nieuwe toestellen aangekondigd zijn. Let me begin by explaining that, as has been predicted, there is indeed no new devices are announced.

Wat Sony Ericsson ons echter wel voorschotelde was een voorzichtig kijkje in de keuken en enkele interessante workshops van onder andere de designers en ontwikkelaars van nieuwe producten en technologieën. What Sony Ericsson voorschotelde us, however, was a cautious peek into the kitchen and some interesting workshops, among other things, the designers and developers of new products and technologies. Natuurlijk mocht niet overal en alles gefotografeerd worden, maar ook dat was te verwachten. Of course could not be photographed everywhere and everything, but that was to be expected.

In volgende artikelen zal wat dieper op sommige zaken ingaan. In following articles will be deeper in some cases go. Voor nu beperk ik mij tot de highlights van vandaag. For now I restrict myself to the highlights of today.

Een bijzonder hot topic is natuurlijk het milieu en hoe we er anders mee om moeten gaan dan dat we tot nu toe gewend waren. A particularly hot topic is, of course, the environment and how we should deal with other than that we were accustomed to now. Dit is ook voor Sony Ericsson een van de speerpunten geworden. Zo is het nieuwe kantoor in Lund zowel tijdens de bouw als in het 'dagelijks gebruik' volgens een vrijwel volledig CO2 neutraal concept ontwikkeld. Tijdens een van de workshops toonde men onder andere het 'Green Heart' concept waarbij producten ontwikkeld worden die energie zuinig en vrij van milieu-onvriendelijke materialen zijn. During one of the workshops showed among other things the "Green Heart" concept where products are developed that are energy efficient and free of environment-unfriendly materials.

Een goed voorbeeld zijn de laders waarvan we allemaal wel weten dat ze ook stroom verbruiken als je ze in het stopcontact laat zitten zonder dat er een telefoon op aangesloten is. A good example is the chargers which we all know that they also consume power if you let them sit in the outlet without a phone is connected. De 'Zero Charger' waarmee Sony Ericsson experimenteert heft een ingebouwde schakelaar die ervoor zorgt dat wanneer je het toestel loskoppelt de lader ook echt uit gaat en nog maar 1% van de stroom verbruikt in vergelijking tot andere laders die nutteloos ingeplugd blijven. The "Zero Charger 'which is experimenting Sony Ericsson has a built-switch which ensures that when you unplug the phone charger actually goes out and only 1% of the electricity consumed in comparison to other chargers plugged remain useless.

Natuurlijk toonde men ook een werkend toestel(concept) waarbij alleen gebruik gemaakt was van biologisch afbreekbare materialen, de Green Heart Phone. Of course they also showed an operating unit (concept) which was only made use of biodegradable materials, the Green Heart Phone.

What was also very nice to have seen is how the design works department (Creative Design Center). Hier mocht natuurlijk niet gefotografeerd worden, maar die boys en girls worden door Sony Ericsson echt de complete vrij gelaten bij het bedenken van nieuwe concepten en ontwerpen. There was of course not be photographed, but that boys and girls are really the complete Sony Ericsson released by devising new concepts and designs. En neem van mij aan dat die vrijheid tot bijzondere dingen leidt ;-) And please believe me that this freedom leads to special things ;-)

Vlak voordat we het pand uit gejaagd werden. Just before we were rushed from the building. . . uhhm, dat klinkt misschien wat cru en zo bedoel ik het niet, maar vijf minuten voordat de laatste workshop eindigde ging het brandalarm af en moest iedereen het pand verlaten. uhhm, that may sound cru what I mean and if not, but five minutes before the final workshop ended the fire alarm went off and everyone had to leave the building. Gelukkig bleek het om een vals alarm te gaan dus het kantoor in Lund staat er ook nu nog ;-) Fortunately it proved a false alarm to go to the office in Lund is also now ;-)

The fire brigade was quickly on the spot.

Maar goed, vlak voordat het alarm dus afging zaten wij midden in een presentatie over Future technologies. Anyway, just before the alarm afging So we sat in the middle of a presentation on future technologies. Daar presenteerden een aantal knappe koppen van Sony Ericsson enkele nieuwe technologien zoals de mogelijkheid om met mobieltjes op IP basis te communiceren, diverse NFC toepassingen en een nieuwe manier van bestandsoverdracht door aanraking van een toestel met een ander toestel of laptop. That presented a handsome number of heads of Sony Ericsson some new technologies such as the ability to IP-based mobile phones to communicate, several NFC applications and a new way of file transfer by contact of a device with another device or laptop. Hier zal ik in een volgende posting verder over uitwijden. I will be here in another posting further clean up.
