Performance:

We have seen a number of powerful smartphones that offer poor in-call quality, but fortunately, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is not one of them. Actually, the X10 is way above average with this respect and as a whole, we rate it 8/10. Our only gripe relates to the slightly muted voices, because they sound less than perfectly realistic, but everything else is great. We didn’t have any problem understanding our callers even on a single occasion, although they claimed they could hear unobtrusive environmental noise when we used the X10 while walking along a busy street.

The manufacturer claims the battery should be able to provide 8 hours of continuous talk time and keep the handset operational for 425 hours in stand-by on 3G networks. In order to achieve such a battery performance, however, you will have to switch off all social networking updates, since they drain the battery fast.

Conclusion:

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

In terms of hardware, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is nothing short of a marvellous device. It´s as easy to notice as taking a look at its specifications and the impression is confirmed when you get it in your hand. The build quality is very good, the screen is huge and features wonderful sensitivity, you get virtually all extra features you might need, including 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS (even navigational software). The 8-megapixe camera is great for taking pictures outdoors and happens to be the best you can find on Android-based handsets today. The video capture capabilities of the device are more than satisfactory as well, even if it does not deliver HD video capture. The in-call and audio playback quality are extremely pleasing as well.

We cannot but congratulate the manufacturer on the concept behind Timescape and Mediascape. The personalization is enjoyable and Sony Ericsson has done great, pre-installing applications to add Microsoft Exchange support and make up for one of the shortcomings of the ageing Android edition. All this contributes to a contemporary smartphone of a very high quality that definitely stands out from the crowd.

Of course, the handset is not without its shortcomings as well, say, lack of landscape QWERTY layout when composing messages, missing audio player equalizer, clumsy browser etc.

Alongside of the HTC Sense, the UX interface is somewhat harder to get used to, but the learning curve is not that steep and you just need to spend some time with it to begin feeling at home. Still, there will be lots of questions like “where is the option for...” and “What happens if I press this...”. One of the issues the manufacturer does need to address is the lagging software. We are pretty sure the severe slowdowns in the operational speed of the device are software-related, because the 1GHz Snapdragon processor is extremely snappy indeed.

What other options do you have? What about the fiercest rivals of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 today?

- Google Nexus One – it is based on Android 2.1 and despite the lack of personalized interface, the device offers proper integration of social networks and eye-candies like Live Wallpapers. Its screen is smaller, but utilizes AMOLED technology and delivers impressive image quality. Moreover, the handset supports multitouch.

- HTC Desire – based on the same hardware and software as the Nexus One, but runs HTC Sense that offers a number of personalization options.

- HTC HD2 - if Android is not your cup of tea, but you still need a device with huge screen, this is your only option today. The handset runs Windows Mobile 6.5, but comes with all the advantages of HTC Sense.

- Motorola DROID – even if less spectacular than the above mentioned cell phones (at least in terms of hardware), the device is a solid option with proper functionality. It is based on Android 2.0 (will get updated to version 2.1 soon) and sports a hardware QWERTY keyboard that may prove to be decisive for heavy texters.

- Samsung Galaxy I 900

- HTC Evo G

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is one of the best Android handsets today, but what it needs to become perfect is software update to the latest version of the operating system and a fix to resolve the several bugs and lagging issue. Don’t underestimate the amount of hard work put into the X10 during the long manufacturing process. The delay was definitely worth it.

However, Hiro San confirmed that the hardware will be compatible (in fact more than sufficiently on the flagship 1GHz and 1GB RAM Xperia X10) with the new Android 2.1 or 2.2 OS, and that the company will probably release firmware upgrades in time, depending on market demand. They might even go straight to Android 2.2, but only after rigourous testing of its stability.

Sejujurnya saja sebenarnya aku pribadi salut juga sama dia. Karena ada org kyk dia, Motorola masih tetap eksis, walaupun dengan cara, yah seperti teman2 sudah pada ketahui.

Dia sudah terlalu ektrim banget dengan Motorolanya, sehingga tiada yang lebih baik selain motorola.

Well, itu mah pendpt dia, toh org motorola sendiri bahkan om momod juga ikut disinggung.

Padahal seoranf fan sejati, hendaknya mau berbagi dengan seseorang yang tidak mengenal suatu brand, dan nantinya sama senang, itu jauh lebih menyenangkan ketimbang menyukai suatu produk sangat ektrimis.

Harusnya setiap pendpt org dihargain, apalagi testi seseorang.

Jujur bro, yang direview gsmarena banyak cacatnya.

Kalau yang direview sama phonedog sama endgadget dan phonearena.

Ketiganya semua hampir sama pendptnya.

Tetapi di bagian multimedia, ketiga2nya menyebutkan audio qualityna sangat memuaskan. Hal ini juga didukung oleh para pentester x10 yang dilakukan oleh SE, dan didalam blognya, mereka menyebutkan bahwa audionya memuaskan, meskipun tanpa head set bluetooth sekalipun.

Is it true that the quality od sound is fantastic?

From the review of Endgadget and PhoneArena stated that x10 get good sound quality.

But the GSMArena stated contradictive, even GSMArena showed the chart of the sound.

Biarpun gw udah ikutan pre-order X10, tp setelah liat demo di youtube (thanks to bro chen) dan baca2 dari berbagai review ttg X10 ini, koq kayaknya gw agak pesimis ya.

Artinya gini, dari youtube udah jelas keliatan lag-nya, dan dari review rata2 pada bilang lagginess itu disebabkan oleh software/firmware, tapi mengingat kinerja Sony Ericsson selama bbrp tahun terakhir ini dalam hal menanggapi keluhan dari customer, koq gw rasanya gak yakin kalau mereka (SE) bakal "mendengar" atau memperhatikan masalah yg sudah dikemukakan oleh orang-orang yg sudah mereview handset mereka. Kalaupun mereka mendengar, pertanyaan gw simple aja: kapan akan dirilis update firmware baru?

Sekarang gw malah ngincer HTC Desire sama Samsung Galaxy S I9000, yg konon spec-nya lbh bagus dari X10 (lbh tipis, layar AMOLED 4", RAM yg gede) kecuali kameranya yg msh 5MP.

Ini cuman pendapat/pemikiran gw sendiri, gak tau temen2 yg lain gimana.

Yap, memang x10 itu masih lekat dengan namanya Lagging. Hal ini biasa terjadi, karena OS yang diusung memang hal terbaru, dan butuh perbaikan sana dan sini.

Seperti halnya kayak symbian ataupun winmo.

Sejujurnya, aku pribadi pun mempunyai pemikiran yang sama dengan bro mobilizer.

Aku juga rada sedikit pesimis juga dengan kedepannya x10.

Tapi yang melihat beberapa review dan kelebihan x10, terutama di multimedianya, setidaknya itu point plusnya x10.

Dan Upgrade software, itu sudah PASTI, tinggal menunggu waktunya saja. Seperti yang sudah kuposting sebelumnya. SE memberikan kepada para tester2 profesional, untuk mencoba kehandalan x10.

Kalau sdh mendpt ijin restu dr para tester, dan keluhan dr para konsumen, SE siap updatein sekaligus ke 2.2, yang kemungkinan dirilis pada pertengahan tahun.

Tapi itu juga masih bersifat rumor belaka.

Well, ngambil x10 ini serasa kayak gambling, kedepannya gak jelas, bisa buruk, atau baik.

WOng reviewnya juga setengah2,

HTC desire itu sama dengan Nexus one, plus ditambah dengan Sense UI.

Sebenarnya spek yang rada kayak monster itu HTC EVO 4G sama SAmsung i900.

Hanya samsung kekurangannya No LED or no flash light.

Guys, nanya deh... berhubung gue kurang mengikuti perkembangan X10 dan Android-phone pada umumnya...

Kalo diliat-liat... kayaknya SE dengan X10-nya itu adalah salah satu perusahaan yang paling rajin meng-customize ponsel buatannya ya ? Maksud gue, dalam artian... OS Androidnya itu ga dibiarin apa adanya gitu ?

X10, mengusung os Android, maka sudah otomatis G talk sudah preinstall.
Sedang yang lain juga bisa melalui third party.
