Sony Ericsson puts developers at the centre of user experience with XPERIA™ X2

New streamlined development tool maximises revenue opportunities and allows developers to create the first Windows Mobile® 6.5 applications for the XPERIA™ X2

Lund, Sweden – September 2, 2009 – Sony Ericsson launches the Panel SDK in a drive to encourage developers to create content for the XPERIA™ X2. The eye-catching interface includes a new range of interactive Panels on the home screen offering business, fun and communication features. By providing unparalleled real estate and marketing visibility, the Panel interface makes the developer central to the user experience.

The Panel SDK includes a Panelizer which turns existing Flash, Java and Windows Mobile® applications into Panels for the XPERIA™ X2, and a native software development kit which allows developers to be the first to create panels for the Windows Mobile® 6.5 platform.

Using the Panelizer, developers are able to maximise the investments they have already made creating compelling applications. In just a couple of clicks and with no separate tool purchase, the Panelizer gives developers a low-cost way to turn their content into the unique Sony Ericsson Panel experience. Panels are then just one touch away from the consumer’s home screen, allowing developers to truly shape the user’s mobile entertainment experience.

Besides supporting Panels and native applications, the XPERIA™ X2 is also equipped with a Java Runtime that makes Java/Capuchin applications run as well integrated as native applications.

Applications accepted as panels will be made available on Sony Ericsson’s market place, PlayNow™ arena, giving developers access to an even wider range of consumers using other Sony Ericsson handsets. Developers from around the world also benefit from the 70% net revenue share offered by PlayNow™ arena, which is available in 18 countries.

“Putting developers’ applications directly in front of consumers is a crucial focus for us,” says Christopher David, Head of Developer and Partner Engagement at Sony Ericsson. “We created the Panel SDK to streamline the development process, minimising the time it takes to get applications directly to the consumer and providing developers with additional revenue opportunities.”

How it works

Developers can submit their applications by following these simple steps:

Xperia X2 software support schedule

As the X2 begins to roll out globally, it’s only fair that customers know what kind of support we’ll be giving the phone in the months to come. It’s not news to say that we attracted some criticism for this on the X1 and we’re not going to go there again with the X2. So, for the record, this is what X2 customers can expect in terms of software upgrades.

In March, we’ll launch our first upgrade (MR1). It will upgrade Windows Mobile from 6.5.1 to 6.5.2 (which will improve both the stability and usability of the device), it will bring in the use of video telephony, an FM radio and it will introduce fast GPS to get a quicker fix. As well as all this, MR1 will upgrade a lot of the applications in the phone to improve speed, usability and fix any bugs we find.

The second update will go live in May and this will be a big one as it moves Windows mobile onto 6.5.3. This is a significant upgrade in terms of usability, performance, power management and the browser experience.

That’s the extent of our plans at the moment but I’ll update this post as we make any more decisions.

Sejauh ini cm HD2 yg memenuhi min requirement HW WM7.

X1 & X2 saya kurang yakin bro bisa pake WM7 or ga, kalo bisapn ga semua feature WM7 bs dijalankan. Apalg WM7 menggunakan kernel yg totally berbeda dgn yg ada sekrg, yaitu Win CE 7.

X1 yg produksi terkhirnya baru ditnamkn ROM R3A yg uda cukup stabil, sdgkn awal2nya ROM-nya masih R1A.

Mgkn X2 nantinya jg begt. Yg sudah beredar sekrg masih pake ROM versi pertama, masi byk bugs, ntar produksi2 berikutnya baru mrk tanamkan ROM terbaru, yg mana mudah2an bugs2 sebelumnya uda solved.

Cm yg disayangkan napa SE ga solve dl bug2 yg saya sebutkn di post seblmnya, bahkan smp versi ROM kedua-nya. Apalg bugs tsb bukan sebuah hidden bugs, tp bugs yg jelas2 keliatan & termsk core functions dr sebuah smartphone!

Seandainya ga ada bugs spt itu dr awalnya, dan upgrade2 rom berikutnya tinggal terfokus pd performance improvement, features & upgrade OS ke WM6.5.X, tentunya akan menjd sebuah nilai yg perfect bagi SE, khususnya utk type XPERIA series.

pada awalnya aku tidak tertarik dengan Blackberry karena terlalu umum/pasaran
kini tampaknya mulai goyah saat menyadari betapa stabilnya OS blackberry...

X2 terlalu banyak menyita waktu, waktu terbuang hanya buat beresin bug2 yg terkesan sepele tetapi cukup mengganggu.
akhirnya bukannya sibuk memanfaatkan x2 buat mengoptimalkan pekerjaan, yang terjadi malah sibuk cari info bagaimana benerin (bug) hanphone
