A smartphone is a mobile phone offering advanced capabilities beyond a typical mobile phone, often with PC-like functionality. There is no industry standard definition of a smartphone. For some, a smartphone is a phone that runs complete operating system software providing a standardized interface and platform for application developers. For others, a smartphone is simply a phone with advanced features.

A PDA phone, as a converged device, is a PDA and cell phone combination, for example the RIM BlackBerry and Samsung SCH-i730. Different research houses provide different definitions for "PDA phone"; from data-centric mobile terminal with rich PDA functionality, to devices with Palm operating system or Pocket PC phone edition, for example the O2 XDA Flame. PDA phones predominantly have data capabilities, including multiple data input methods (for example stylus, touch screen, extended keypad), wireless email functions, security and device management features, organizer functions, usb connection, charging from PC and extensive third party application support.

A smartphone on the other hand is mainly a phone, with some PDA phone features like organizer function and data viewing capabilities without editing functions. This usage can be misunderstood as the Windows Mobile Smartphone platform, which does not use a touchscreen. The term "smartphone" (with a lowercase "s") refers to any PDA phone, regardless of the presence of a touchscreen or operating system. However, this may be resolved as with the Windows Mobile 6 release, the Smartphone platform will be rebranded "Standard" so this may clear up the confusion.

fastport itu semacam konektor universal di hp keluaran SE yg fungsinya macam2 misal transfer data, charging, dll. Kalo di nokiyem namanya pop-port (CMIIW)

iya sayang juga banyak aksesories SE yg g bisa kepake lagi

Yup, makanya sama dibedakan dengan penambahan kata Standard (untuk non-touchscreen) dan Professional (untuk yang touchscreen).
Intinya sih kalo secara umum PDA Phone itu menurut gw yang ber-OS WM dan touchscreen sedangkan smartphone adalah yang ber-OS Symbian, Linux dan sejenisnya yang non-touchscreen. Tapi jadinya memang ada grey area untuk UIQ yang touchscreen.
Tapi yang jelas... X1 itu masuk kategori PDA Phone dong...

Yup, khusus X1 ini -- mungkin dengan pertimbangan bahwa pasar yang dituju juga adalah para user existing WM -- tidak menggunakan fastport khas SE tapi mini USB untuk charging dan transfer data, sedangkan untuk handsfree menggunakan jack 3.5 mm.

Mudah2an bersamaan dengan peluncuran pemasaran X1 nantinya SE juga akan menyediakan aksesoris yang cocok untuk X1.

udah ada GPS nya belum sih ?

Units shipped in the quarter were 22.3 million, a 2% increase compared to the same period last year and in line with our March 19, 2008 interim announcement of 22 million units. Sales for the quarter were Euro 2,702 million, a decrease of 8% on a year ago due to slowing market growth in mid-to-high end phones in markets where Sony Ericsson has a strong presence. Gross margin was one percentage point lower than Q1 2007, reflecting a less favourable product mix. Income before taxes for the quarter was Euro 193 million, which was at the higher end of the range (Euro 150-200 million) we announced on March 19, 2008. This represented a decrease of 47% compared with a year ago, due to higher R&D investments as a percentage of sales, and reflecting that Q1 2007 was a particularly strong first quarter for the company. Net income for the quarter was 48% lower, at Euro 133 million.

“Sony Ericsson continues to invest in expanding its product portfolio to appeal to a wider variety of consumers in both new and existing markets,” said Dick Komiyama, President, Sony Ericsson. “Our product announcements during the first quarter have been well received by the industry, and we expect to see a positive effect from these announcements during the second half of 2008.”

During the quarter, Sony Ericsson added a new sub-brand to its product portfolio with the announcement of the XPERIA™ X1, a high-end multi-media convergence phone based on Windows Mobile®, which will launch in the second half of the year. In addition, the company announced a number of new phones during the quarter to increase the appeal of its brand to a broader audience. These included new high-end Walkman® and HSDPA web phones, such as the W980, W760, Z770 models and also added to its cutting-edge Cyber-shot™ range with models such as the C702 and C902.
Average selling price (ASP) decreased both sequentially and year-on-year due to the impact of softer sales of high-to-mid end models in key markets. Market share for the quarter is estimated to be around 8%, down one percentage point sequentially.
Sony Ericsson made a dividend payment of Euro 470 million during the quarter to the parent companies. A second dividend payment will be made this year.

Sony Ericsson forecasts that the global handset market for 2008 will grow at a rate of around 10% from more than 1.1 billion units in 2007. The majority of this growth is expected to be in emerging markets.

Rencana nich mo ganti FLAME sy (sama2 WM walopun FLAME msih WM5 tp udah ada WM6 unofficial)..Mudah2an ga lama krn klo ada PDAPhone yg make GPU nvidia apx2500 maka X1 ini akan kalah jauh..

ada yg tau X1 itu GPU nya pake apa? Klo sy liat spek pros qualcomm, pasti lebih hemat batere cuman masih kalah ama intel walopun sama2 500mhz (cuman klo pake intel akan lebih boros)..

Apa qualcomm nya X1 ini apa sama dgn yg dipake TYTN II? Krn klo sama akan syng skali krn ternyata pros di TYTN II itu dipotong GPU nya spy murah dan ini banyak yg kecewa (coba liat [tautan dihapus] , banyak yg komplain bahkan buat petisi hanya krn ga adanya 3d accelerator nya..)...

Sy juga ga tau apakah i-mate 9502 juga menggunakan pros yg sama yg dipakai TYTN II..
