It's official - Nokia unveiled their new flagship, the Nokia N8. With 12MP camera and 720p video recording, the latest handset from the Finnish company is on track to becoming the new imaging champ in the mobile phone world. The camera on the Nokia N8 is equipped with Carl Zeiss optics and a xenon flash. Nokia says that the image sensor "rivals those found in compact digital cameras". The camera can also capture 720p HD video at 25 frames per second and offers built-in video editing tools.
The Nokia N8 also features two different TV-out interfaces - the standard 3.5mm audio jack and a mini-HDMI port (a first for the GSM world). The Nokia N8 also features Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound over the HDMI link. The Nokia N8 offers up to 3 hours and 20 minutes of video capture or 7 hours of video playback (6 over HDMI) thanks to the 1200mAh battery. The talk time is impressive too - 12 hours, and the battery will last for 50 hours of music playback.
There's plenty of memory to keep the videos on too - the Nokia N8 has 16GB of built-in memory and supports microSD cards up to 32GB. As for viewing things on the phones itself, the N8 comes with a 3.5" capacitive touchscreen with 16:9 aspect ratio with nHD resolution (360 x 640). The Nokia N8 is connectivity champ - it is a true globetrotter with quad-band GSM/EDGE and five-band 3G. Yep, five bands - 850/900/1700/1900/2100. It has Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS with A-GPS (plus other positioning methods), microUSB with USB On-the-go and a built-in FM transmitter. Having mentioned GPS, the N8 will of course come with Ovi Maps for free voice-guided navigation.
The N8 is the first device that runs Symbian^3 and it also has support for the Qt cross-platform apps and UI framework that should allow development of apps that run on Symbian and MeeGo. It has multiple homescreens and is proficient in social networking. It also offers improved application and graphics performance.
The Nokia N8 is expected to become available in the third quarter with an estimated retail price of 370 euro (500 US dollars). It will be available in Dark Grey, Silver White, Green, Blue, Orange.
Wah... Nokia mulai bermain di warna-warna ngejreng buat flagship-nya. Biasanya kan warna-warna rame kaya gini buat kelas mid-end yang pasarnya kelas menengah, sekarang paling high-end nya pun jadi rame.
Ngiler to the max liat ni hp, tertarik ma warna birunya. Lensanya bakal sebagus punya N86 ga yah? Kalo iya sih mantep tuh, dikasih xenon pula. Tapi jarak xenon ama lensa rada deket, bakalan bikin efek red-eye ga yah? Hmmm... Q3 masi lama yakk?
Earlier today Nokia announced their latest multimedia flagship, the N8 and said that it packs a large sensor that rivals those found in compact digital cameras. But they never actually quoted the exact sensor size and since compact cameras sensors go from 1/3″ through 1/2.5″ to 1/1.6″ in diagonal (from smallest to largest) I felt the need to do the math and find out where exactly the Nokia N8 ranks.
After all 1/2.5″ sensors have been around the mobile industry for a while now – Nokia N95 had a sensor about that size some 3 years ago. Yet, it turns out that Nokia did have something to boast about with the Nokia N8.
So let’s do the math ourselves. We know the quoted focal length of the lens, 5.4mm – as printed on the device itself. We also know the effective focal length, 28mm – as flaunted in the marketing materials. So let’s divide the effective focal length over the quoted one and we get something along 5.185. Then it’s easy to look up that number in Wikipedia’s Image sensor format article.
So, it turns out that the Nokia N8 camera sensor stretches over roughly 1/1.9″, which is an impressive number on its own. Even if Nokia N8 was a dedicated digital camera, its sensor would still be considered large.
Of course, image quality doesn’t boil down to sensor size exclusively but when you have almost twice the imaging area, chances are you will have more accurate data to process resulting in better dynamic range and lower noise levels.
Just to give you some perspective, I did the same math on some related cameraphones, so here they are:
- Sony Ericsson Satio – 1/2.5″ - Samsung Pixon12 – 1/2.5″ - Nokia N86 8MP – 1/2.5″ - Sony Ericsson Vivaz – 1/3.2″
I just can’t wait to get my hands on a sample unit. The officially published samples look quite good.
kamera canon ixus 210 is (baru keluar, harga 3,3 juta an) ; sensor size = 1/2.3 " kamera canon powershot s90 (kamera canon poket terbaik, harga 4,2 juta an) ; sensor size = 1/1.7 " kamera panasonic lumix lx-3 (kamera poket terbaik sejauh ini, walaupun sudah rilis hampir 2 tahun yg lalu, harga 4,1 juta an) ; sensor size = 1/1.63 "
Quote: Canz said: Kapan release di Indonya yah? Jadi pengen jual N97 gw...

How LARGE is the Nokia N8 large image sensor?

sebagai perbandingan :
kamera canon ixus 210 is (baru keluar, harga 3,3 juta an) ; sensor size = 1/2.3 "

@samehada95
ingat dong harga perkiraan 5800 = 280 euro
di indo release dgn harga 4,75 juta
klo ini 370 euro
jadinya = 6,3 juta
harga ini bisa dibilang ya pas lah untuk high end first release
perbandingan :
SE X10 = 7 juta
HTC Desire = 5,7 juta
thx
