Motorola XOOM Clockwork Recovery Now Available, Full Backups Are Go
On 04.18.11

With SD card support being added to the XOOM late last week, we knew the Clockwork Recovery would be soon to follow. And sure enough, it was released yesterday, allowing those of us with XOOMs to create full nandroid backups to our SD cards and feel much better about our hacking adventures.

Full support thread including download and instructions here.

*Pro Tip – When inserting an SD card, do not drop it in the SIM slot or you may be sending your XOOM back to Motorola to have them fish it out. Yeah, I’m talking about me.

Update: Fixed my XOOM! A T5 screwdriver and 4 screws later and I fished it out.

Cheers Graham and Luis!

Motorola XOOM Passes the FCC Looking Prepped for AT&T
by Kevin Krause on April 18th, 2011 at 4:40 pm

A couple months back it was mentioned in an interview with AT&T’s Chief Marketing Officer David Christopher that the carrier was slated to receive their own version of the Motorola XOOM later this year. A recent FCC filing could be all the confirmation we need that the plans are indeed in motion and a release may not be that far off.

Listed as the IHDT65ME1 and described as a “wireless tablet,” the Motorola filing shows support for GSM 850 and 1900 bands and WCDMA bands II and V. Translated, this device would feel right at Motorola XOOM for AT&T arrives at the FCC
By Edwin Kee - 04/17/2011 home on AT&T’s network. The XOOM is already out through Verizon and has popped up with Sprint branding more than once, though a contract-free, wireless-only version is also available.

We do know that Sprint will be rolling out a WiMAX-enabled version of the Motorola XOOM in due time, but it seems that Motorola is about to approach marketing the XOOM tablet using a “scattergun” method – that is, peppering it across different mobile carriers with hopes that there is a XOOM for everybody, regardless of tax bracket and economic background.

Another Motorola device known as the IHDT56ME1 has arrived at the FCC, where it was described as a “wireless tablet,” with test reports pointing towards the device supporting GSM 850 and 1900 bands, in addition to WCDMA bands II and V (850 and 1900). If you read between the lines, that would mean the IHDT56ME1 would play nice with AT&T’s 3G bands Stateside, and might just be the GMS version of the Motorola XOOM that will arrive at AT&T.

Of course, if you want a XOOM but don’t want to pony up any money for it, why not give our Motorola XOOM giveaway a shot?
