Mitsubishi Electric plans to leave the European mobile phone market

Mitsubishi Electric has announced its plans to dissolve its European mobile phone R&D subsidiary company, Melco Mobile Communications Europe S.A. (MMCE). Sales activity in Europe would be stopped after the currently released models, but after-sales-service and customer support service will be maintained.

Since its foundation in January 2003, MMCE has been involved in the development of Mitsubishi Electric GSM mobile phones. There was issued a number of highly regarded GSM models with the latest technology for European operators, however the competition with industry leaders like Nokia, Motorola, Samsung turned to be very tough.

Since the European mobile phone business has not forecasted a return to profitability for the foreseeable future, Mitsubishi Electric has planned the liquidation of MMCE. The timeframe for liquidation will be set after the talks with local employee representatives.

It is the second failure for Mitsubishi Electric in Europe. In the late 1990s the company retreated from the European market after the failed launch of several models under the name Trium.

Jangan2 kaya Siemens nih....mau cabut dr divisi mobile-phone-nya....tp tau2 sekarang malah keluarin hp2 type2 terbaru yg canggih....

Siemens? Kasusnya beda yah?
Siemens ingin mempertahankan divisi HP-nya, dan berusaha mencari partner dr China... Namun gagal & akhirnya mereka memotong banyak anggaran. Terakhir Siemens buat kontak dgn Lite-On [Taiwan] utk memproduksi handset super murah. Hal ini dilakukan Siemens utk mendongkrak ketinggalannya.

Sedangkan Mitsubishi Electric; beda. Mereka kerja sama dgn perusahaan Perancis & memproduksi brand Trium saat itu utk pemasaran di Eropa. Kemudian banting stir lagi dgn perusahaan lain utk produksi dgn brand Mitsubishi; gagal lagi. Akhirnya, kali ini mereka mengambil langkah: hengkang dr Eropa.
