Info about the tested M50

The tested M50 is an 'Early Bird', which means it's a version that's available before the launching of the mobile, ment for Java developers and comes with a datacable and CD with software. It's the version with blue covers and blue backlight. Firmware version is 9. It's natural to compare M50 with C45, so that's what I will do in this test.

First impression

After using C45 for some months, the first thing I noticed on the M50 is that it's keypad is incredible much better. It has hard buttons with very good response. I felt a bit uncomfortable with the blue backlight to begin with, but now I'm starting to get used to it and actually, I kinda like it. There will also be a version available with amber backlight. The design is (in my opinion) much better than C45. More modern and it also look more solid. The size is almost the same as C45, but I can really feel that M50 weight 10 grams less.

Menus/Speed

The menus are the same as on C45, only with few new options. Each of the 10 digit keys can be assign to a function, so you can just hold down that button for a couple of seconds and e.g. start writing a SMS at once. When talking about SMS, there is no longer any reason to not buy Siemens because of slowness when writing SMS. It's as fast as it can get, no delay at all. Also when writing an URL in the WAP-browser there is no delay (C45 firmware 31 have fast SMS, but slow writing anywhere else).

SMS/EMS

M50 can save SMS on the SIM-card (how many depends on your SIM-card), 25 SMS in the Inbox/Outbox memory and also the 'Archive' (275Kb flexmem) can be used. Should be enough space for most of us.

M50 has full EMS-support, which in short means:

- SMS with 760 characters.

- Text-formatting in SMS (Line feed, small/medium/large fonts, underline, left/center/right alignment and the option to mark text).

- Option to insert own and pre-defined pictures, animations and sounds.

Java

4 java-games was pre-installed. Flowboarding, Windsurfing, Stack Attack 2 and an Italian game I've already deleted... New games/applications can be downloaded through WAP. Games made for SL45i doesn't seem to be any problem, even with a smaller display on M50. E.g 'GoldMiner' works fine. 'An poker' also works, but the problem is that you can't see the menu buttons and how much money you have earned... Games especially made for M50 will of course be available.

Calling Images

Now this is a cool feature. Images can be assigned to any contact in the phonebook. 39 images are already in the flexmem and your own can be downloaded through datacable, via WAP or SMS. Add a big hearth for your love, an angry face for your boss and maybe an exploding bomb for your mother in law? When they call you, the image will show on the display.

The rest...

The rest is mostly like on C45. It has logos, screensavers, 'Bitmap Style' (Racing and Windsurfing), 20 ringtones + 4 individual that can be added, 'My menu' is for fast acces to your most used functions. My pre-paid subscription doesn't support GPRS, so I was not able to test GPRS.

Disadvantages?

Not really. But the display glass is not lowered as on C45, so scratches will probably come easier. Not a catastrofe though, since the cover easily can be changed. No bugs found so far.

Conclusion

M50 is an impressingly mobile. The problems on C45 is improved or gone on M50 and it has some new functions like Java, GPRS, Calling Images, flexible memory and full EMS (also on C45 FW31) for almost the same price. If you're thinking of buying a C45, don't do it, wait for the M50 instead. Users that already have a C45 will also be impressed by M50. I even think S45/ME45/SL45-users will be pleased with a M50, as a second mobile or for using the features they miss (GPRS or Java) until Siemens launch a new high-end mobile.

Saya pikir untuk harga pertama tidak akan sama dengan C45, mengingat M50 sudah dilengkapi oleh GPRS dan Java compatible (yang tidak dimiliki oleh C45) but who knows after that ?

Imagine you buy a new cellular phone for 1,4 jt and after a few months the price became 800.000

Mudah-mudahan hal ini tidak terjadi di M50

Saya tetap pilih ME45 hehehe .. soalnya M50 cuma menang model lebih bagus, ada java yg belum pasti akan berguna banget, tapi featurenya jauhhhhhh berkurang dibanding ME45

memang sih dari segi desain dan fashion M50 manis banget ,dengan fasilitas Calling Images,SMS to Group,Caller Group,casing yang bisa diganti-ganti, Java (jadi mungkin beberapa fasilitas seperti kalkulator,stopwatch,dlsb bisa didownload dengan teknologi ini,tapi apakah ngga menghabiskan flex mem bila programnya besar2 ya?) plus download game2 baru,wah asik banget deh..

fasilitas2 itu memang ngga ada ya di ME45,jadi klo pingin tambahan game baru ya terpaksa nunggu firmware baru,hehe..v.30 kali ya?atau ME45i klo nanti ada?

dulu sih memang tertarik banget sama M50 karena casingnya cantik dan ada Javanya,tapi setelah dibanding-bandingin masih mending ME45 deh kayaknya (minus Java),rasanya sayang klo mo dilepas.mungkin nunggu harganya turun banyak jadi ME45nya ngga perlu dilepas......

harga M50 (info dari Club-Siemens) sepertinya sedikit diatas C45 waktu pertama kali C45 keluar (Rp 1,6-1,7 jt),jadi mungkin harga M50 nanti sekitar (Rp 1,8-2,0 jt)..

kemungkinan besar sih begitu mas.Walaupun M50 punya fasilitas2 canggih (tanpa fungsi Office) tapi masih tergolong ponsel low-end (dan lebih ditujukan bagi yang berjiwa muda,ceilee... ) sehingga nggak mungkin dijual diatas Rp 2jt..cuma kira2 aja tapi,habis bukan yang nentuin harga pasarnya sih.. jadi pasti saingan banget sama S/ME45

Kalau di Jogja sih yang jual C45 baru dibawah 800 ribu lumayan banyak mas,bahkan rata2 sekitar 760 ribu-an.BM sih tapi.Di Jogja memang harga siemens C45 (ME45 juga) jatuh terus gara2 diserbu produk BM...Tapi Siemens walaupun BM tetap aja bagus,kayak C45 saya beli awal Januari sampe skrg ngga pernah ada masalah.omong2 mas DigitALL mau beli C45 juga ya?

Tapi yang sering saya sayangkan dari produk Siemens itu ya karena fasilitas2 yang ada di ponsel low end-nya malah ngga ada di ponsel middle/high endnya.Atau yang dulu ada malah dihilangin.Ngga spt Nokia/SonyEricsson,fasilitas yang ada di hp low end biasanya ada di hp mid/high endnya.Mungkin taktik pasar juga sih kali ya.Misalnya S/ME45,memang lebih sesuai sama profesional/bisnisman yang ngga mikirin trend atau gaya aja,tapi ternyata banyak juga anak muda yang suka make S/ME45,tapi di situ ngga ada fasilitas spt SMS to Group,Caller Group yang lebih komplit,Calling faces/symbols.kalo ada kan asik juga tuh,jadi klo ada yg manggil kan gak cuma gambar lonceng doang yang muncul..hehe,yang ini uneg2 aja sih.
