The End of UIQ

The Sony Ericsson owned company UIQ files for bankruptcy according to CEO Johan Sandberg

The Swedish newspaper Sydöstran reported on wednesday that UIQ Ronneby was filed for bankrupcy. CEO Johan Sandberg said the owners will not provide any more financial support. Two months ago, the two owners Sony Ericsson and Motorola garanteed for the emploees paychecks, but would not say for how long. The current world economy made it difficult to find investors willing to insert more capital in the company.

Around 200 people was still working for UIQ during the last day of 2008.

History of UIQ

1998

Spring: Ericsson Mobile Communications in Lund set up a development lab in Ronneby called Mobile Applications Lab. This was the embryo of UIQ Technology

1999

The company became part of Symbian Ltd

2002

The first UIQ phone, Sony Ericsson P800, was released

2003

Sony Ericsson P900 and Motorola A920 launched based on UIQ 2.1

2004

Motorola A925, Sony Ericsson P910, BenQ P31, Motorola A1000 reached the market.

2005

Motorola launched FOMA M1000

2006

Sony Ericsson W950, P990, M600 and W950 announced and launched

2007

Sony Ericsson completed the acquisition of UIQ Technology. Later, Motorola joins Sony Ericsson with equal ownership.

UIQ 3.1 released

Motorola announced the Motorizr Z8 base on UIQ 3.1

Sony Ericsson P1 and W960 announced

2008

Motorola Moto Z10 announced

Sony Ericsson G700 and G900 announced.

UIQ 3.3 released

Mungkin mreka baru tau n ngrasain kalo UIQ tuh Exotiz. Biar mreka ngerti kalo beli "hangphone" (kata bos) g perlu pilih yg cm gara2 purna jualnya doank.

Sy jg suka Blackberry, sebatas S/W aja. Hardware OK jg sih, g jauh beda ama PC oldies berproc P3. Harga selangit, ga bs touch sreen. Coba bandingin ama Lily, harga g nyentuh langit, tp bs layar sentuh. Bisa diinstal BB lg, push email bs. Kalo BB g bakalan bs diinstal UIQ. Mending Iphone skalian. Tunggu aja deh UIQ pasti "REINKARNASI".............~~~///

Ada news baru yg mengabarkan bahwa vendor ponsel pemilik Symbian Foundation (Nokia) akan bermain di pasar notebook juga. Kalo emang benar, bisa jadi pake OS Symbian Foundation.
Bayangin coba, kalo UIQ benar2 diimplementasikan d SF. SE pasti bisa bikin surprise juga, merilis Laptop tanpa keyboard n mouse. Apalagi kalo OSnya pake SF based on UIQ. Bisa2 cuma terdiri dari LCD monitor plus stylus doank, UIQ style man..........
