Menjaring e-mail dengan si Badai

Setelah lama ditunggu para penggemar Blackberry, akhirnya Research In Motion Ltd (RIM) mengumumkan kehadiran produk telepon seluler pertama yang dilengkapi dengan layar sentuh ukuran lebar.

Produk yang diberi nama Blackberry Storm alias Si Badai itu akan menjadi pesaing iPhone buatan Apple karena kemiripan desainnya. RIM selama ini dikenal sebagai pembuat perangkat Blackberry yang menonjolkan fitur e-mail dan memiliki papan ketik ukuran besar.

Storm menjadi model pertama dari produk RIM yang tanpa dilengkapi dengan papan ketik dan mengandalkan pemasukan data melalui layar yang menutupi hampir keseluruhan badan ponsel.

Sebagai produk RIM, fitur e-mail dan chatting khas Blackberry tetap menjadi unggulan pada Storm.

Desain Storm memiliki banyak kemiripan dengan desain iPhone buatan Apple. Bedanya, RIM mencoba mengatasi keluhan para pengguna iPhone mengenai layar yang terbuat dari kaca yang membuat proses pengetikan kurang nyaman karena tidak ada feedback ketukan.

Layar besar Blackberry Storm akan dilengkapi dengan semacam cairan sehingga jika ditekan akan memberikan umpan balik ke jari seolah-olah mengetik pada keypad biasa.

Storm akan dijual melalui operator Verizon Wireless untuk pasar AS serta Vodafone Group PLC untuk pelanggan di luar AS. RIM belum mengumumkan harga yang ditetapkan untuk produk terbarunya itu.

Munculnya jajaran produk baru RIM yang dilengkapi layar sentuh bagi konsumen yang selama ini kecanduan e-mail tidak lepas dari keberhasilan Apple dalam memopulerkan iPhone.

Pangsa pasar RIM pada segmen ponsel cerdas di AS masih bertahan pada di atas 50%. Namun demikian, Apple berhasil untuk terus meningkatkan pangsa pasarnya. (Bisnis/swi)

Di AS, blackberry yg paling canggih yg ada sekarang belom 3G.
Bold masih belum release di amrik.
Smartphone 3G yg paling dicari orang ya iPhone.
Bold pun akan direlease oleh AT&T, dan mereka ngga mau head-to-head dgn Bold, alesan kemarin Bold masih dalam proses ujicoba.

Storm sendiri akan muncul oleh Verizon, ini peta kekuatan akan berubah.

Dulu 8300 curve pertama nongol tanpa wifi/gps.
Ntar mungkin akan nongol 9520 utk versi ber wifi.

Following a long wait and numerous rumors, BlackBerry Storm has finally been made available, and now everybody seems to be eager to get their hands on the much anticipated device. The first two mobile carriers to deliver RIM's Storm are Verizon and Vodafone.

Vodafone Australia has recently announced that it's going to offer users the BlackBerry Storm soon. On the carrier’s official website, all those interested can already pre-order the device. Unfortunately, the company does not provide any clues regarding a release date, nor regarding the price for the Storm.

With Vodafone’s ultra high speed, reliable mobile network and this exclusive and exciting new smartphone, there has never been a better time to be with Vodafone.” Rovekamp further adds.

The main features of BlackBerry Storm are a 3.25-inch TFT touchscreen, light sensing display with 480 x 360 pixels, on-screen keyboard – full QWERTY in landscape mode and SureType QWERTY in portrait mode, built-in GPS, full HTML browser, push email, BlackBerry Enterprise Server, BlackBerry Internet Service, BlackBerry Unite! and BlackBerry Professional Software, DataViz Documents to Go.

The device also packs a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus, variable zoom, geotagging and flash, media player with support for many formats, a 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, password protection and screen lock, and 1GB internal memory, expandable via microSD and microSDHC cards up to 16GB.

BlackBerry Berharap pada Bold dan Storm

Jakarta - Penjualan perangkat BlackBerry diprediksi akan menurun pada 2009. Namun mereka masih punya harapan besar pada produk terbaru mereka, Bold dan Storm.
Demikian pendapat analis dari Morgan Keegan, Tavis McCourt. Menurutnya pertumbuhan penjualan perangkat BlackBerry akan turun dari 40 persen di 2008 menjadi sekitar 25-30 persen di 2009.

Meski demikian, McCourt yakin produk baru BlackBerry Bold dan Storm akan membantu perusahaan produsen BlackBerry, Research In Motion (RIM). "Kami tetap yakin RIM akan tumbuh lebih cepat dibandingkan pasar smartphone secara umum karena adanya produk baru ini," tuturnya seperti dikutip detikINET dari Wired, Selasa (21/10/2008).

Analis dari Canaccord Adams, Peter Misek, mengatakan RIM pasti akan merasakan dampak krisis global yang terjadi. "Produk mereka premium, dan dalam kondisi dunia sekarang, tekanan untuk menurunkan harga akan luar biasa," ujarnya.

Belum lagi, lanjut Misek, kebanyakan target BlackBerry adalah pengguna bisnis dan korporasi. Sedangkan kalangan itu diprediksi akan makin mengencangkan ikat pinggang dalam kondisi ekonomi yang tidak menentu.

Para analis memperkirakan BlackBerry akan melakukan penawaran paket diskon agresif demi mempertahankan tingkat pertumbuhan mereka. Ini termasuk paket diskon untuk layanannya, yang biasanya disediakan bersama operator telekomunikasi.

We don’t have too much info to go off of at this point in time, but if you are still waiting to get your hands on the Pearl Flip 8220, Curve 8900, Bold, or Storm, we’re about to screw you up real quick. We’ve now confirmed from 2 independent sources that RIM is working on a device that will blow the roof off all previous models. Ready for it? 5 megapixel auto-focus camera, 1GB of RAM so your precious worthless apps don’t cause memory leaks, and a “near-HD quality” screen. We’re honestly not sure about the form-factor but we heard this device could be sort of a Bold and Storm mashup. Either Treo-esque or a slide-out device. One last thing… we have also heard from a different source that RIM is hard at work on a second generation Storm device and they’ve even started the first stages of a third generation Storm.
