WINDOWS Mobile 6.1

The most significant changes to Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard (previously known as Smartphone) are:

- New larger system font (Causes some third-party applications to render texts incorrectly)
- Sliding Panel home screen (A scroll wheel is much appreciated now)
- Threaded messages (Conversations-based as on the iPhone)
- Number of characters left counter now available in the title bar (Nice and neat.)
- Can't mark messages as unread anymore (It's a mystery to us.)
- Multiple message select is available (good job!)
- The default email signature now says "Sent from my Windows Mobile phone." (sounds iPhonish again)
- Start button can either open the new "Recent programs" listing or the usual "All Programs" folder
- Pocket Internet Explorer has a new Zoom feature (Compensating for the lack of a mini-map)
- Copy/Paste text function (It was about time! Anyways, it's available in Internet Explorer, Messaging, and Office only)
- New Clock&Alarm menu in the "All Programs" listing for easier managing of Alarms
- New "Managed Programs" item in settings for all apps installed remotely by your company Sys Admin

The Windows Mobile 6.1 won't be available for direct purchase to existing devices. Instead manufacturers will take care to release it as a free update to selected device. It's good to know that there are already several devices out there that will use the 6.1 version out-of-the-box. Among those are:

ASUS: New phones including the P320, ZX1, P560, M536 and updates for the P527, P750, M930
HTC: A new Touch Dual for the U.S. and updates for the AT&T Tilt, Touch by HTC, Mogul by HTC from Sprint, TyTN II
i-mate: 8502, 9502, 8150, 6150
Motorola: MOTO Q 9c, MOTO Q 9h global
Samsung: BlackJack II
Toshiba: Portege G810, Portege G910

What's new in Windows Mobile 6.1

Improved Home screen

The most obvious change can be seen on the WM6.1 Standard Home screen with a rotating panel interface. Moving up and down will bring you to various main categories like Photos, Messaging and Calendar. Within each panel, you can scroll left and right to perform tasks within that category. For example, after scrolling down to the music panel, you can then start to play music, navigate between tracks and even view album art without having to leave the Home screen.

Easier initial setup

Getting Started screen on WM6.1 Professional.

One of the main complaints about WM is how difficult it is to get everything set up. For example, to perform tasks like setting up an email account, pairing a Bluetooth headset and choose a ringtone, you need to start the process from three different locations within the user interface. With WM6.1, there is a Getting Started tab found on the Home screen. This lets you perform all those tasks right at the point when you first receive your brand new handset. Once all the settings have been put in place, you can then choose to remove this Getting Started tab.

Threaded SMS

SMS threads make following conversations easier.

Made popular by the Palm on its line of Palm OS Treo devices, threaded SMS has been pushed further into the limelight when Apple implemented it on the iPhone. This feature is now standard on WM6.1. So now, messages are stored as if they were instant messaging chat sessions. This makes it more convenient to monitor the flow of an SMS exchange and makes the Inbox less cluttered. Searching for messages has also been simplified--just type in the first few letters of a recipient and those will be filtered out from the rest.

New Internet Explorer Mobile

Notice the Zoom Out option on the new Internet Explorer Mobile browser.

At the same time, Microsoft has released a new version of its browser for WM6.1. This new version is more suited for viewing Web sites designed for desktop browsers thanks to its ability to zoom out and give an overview of the page. The user can then choose which part of the page he wants to read and zoom back in. As with the threaded SMS, this is not new. It's a feature that has been found on Nokia's Series 60 browser and more recently, on the iPhone. This update will only be available to device manufacturers in Q3 2008, and so it may find its way into the hands of consumers only at the end of the year.

gw dah nyoba upgrade xphoneII gw ke WM6.1, sebelumnya tuh xphoneII gw dah pernah upgrade dari WM2003SE ke WM6.0, pas liat2 diinternet ada upgrade-an ke WM6.1, ya sudah dilanjutkan.
Dan hasilnya cukup okelah...Bluetooth utk kirim oke, tp nerima blm bisa kyknya, infrared gak kecoba soalnya dah rusak, internet and chat ok bgt, sms oke, mms blm bs nyetel nya dari jaman WM2003SE abis gw hard reset MMS gak bisa lagi...bingung...
Yaaa, pokoknya WM6.1 tidak mengecewakan untuk di upgrade di xphoneII, secara blm bs beli hape baru...hehehe

Hayo rame2 pake WM 6.1 lebih cepet dan mantep. Saya pakai HTC Softbank, semula pakai WM 6.0, trus saya upgrade ke WM 6.1, hasilnya lebih kenceng, jarang ngehang, hanya batery lebih boros dikit..... mungkin konsekwensi dari peningkatan kecepatan.

Tapi lebih OK sih..

Rapidshare Free kok, mungkin ip bro share ama yang laen, jadi di blokir karena kalo free cuman beberapa quota aja tiap hari.

Udah aku cek di web xda-developer pembuatnya cuman upload di rapidshare ngga ada mirrornya mungkin di sini ada yang bantu?

Kalo pengalaman aku pake WM6.1 malah jadi lambat di XDA ii, ( mungkin salah setting kali), jadi aku downgrade lagi pakai WM6 by Helmi, is the best rom Menurut aku lho,
