OT :

http://androidandme.com/2010/03/news/is-multitouch-broken-on-the-nexus-one/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzhUzq6bTPg

Kalau memang benar mau diupgrade ke 2.1 memang sebaiknya gunain fasilitas pinch zoom, ketimbang multitouchnya. Pinch zoomnya memang kuakui keren dan friendly user.

The Nexus One performs perfectly fine when used for pinch zoom implementations, but it struggles in other situations. When two fingers are placed close to each other or they cross the same axis, the data points get flipped. This is a major problem for games that use multitouch and I have experienced them first hand with Polarbit games like ToonWarz.

Duh, touchscreen, sama 4 tombol dasar dibawahnya nih, errrrrr.

Di pameran kan dua-duanya? Emang sempet dia upload ke komputer?

Mendingan cek ke situs luar yang udah pernah bikin review/preview masing2 kalau mau ngebandingin.

Sony Ericsson’s new Android-based phone interface, like those from other cellphone manufacturers, integrates Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and other social networking services into one unified portal on your portable. The difference is that Sony Ericsson’s interface — UXP, formerly known as Rachael — actually looks useful.

The company plans to launch a slew of new Android-based phones this year. Top of the list is the Xperia X10 — which confusingly carries the same codename that UXP used to have: Rachael. It’s a device with a 4-inch touchscreen, a 1-GHz Snapdragon processor and 8.1 megapixel camera that will be available this quarter. The company will also introduce the Mini, a compact phone with a 2.6-inch display that will be available in a touchscreen-only version as well as one with a slide-out keyboard.

But it’s UXP that forms the heart of these phones’ experience. Sony Ericsson has been working on the UXP interface for more than two years, the company says.

We have done extensive skinning of the Android platform. because we really wanted to make it a bespoke experience,” says George Arriola, head of user experience for Sony Ericcson.

Sony’s UXP interface attempts to do the same thing as rivals like Motorola’s MotoBLUR: namely, aggregate social networking feeds such as Facebook and Twitter into one stream, integrate that data with your phone address book and contacts, and personalize the multimedia experience.

We took a very sophisticated PlayStation middleware and shrunk it to fit the Android OS,” says Arriola.

Palm was the first of the smartphone makers to kick off the trend of integrating social media updates and contacts with the launch of the Palm Pre, though the Pre was based on Palm’s own operating system webOS, not Android. But the Android phones launched since then have tried to follow the path blazed by Palm.

Motorola has the MotoBlur interface that’s now a part of most of its phones, including the Cliq, Backflip and Devour. HTC has introduced Sense, its custom UI that’s available on phones such as the HTC Hero and upcoming phones including Legend and Desire.

But Sony’s UXP interface is the most visually attractive implementation that I have seen so far.

timescape

At the heart of Sony’s experience is a widget called Timescape. Timescape collects social networking feeds and presents them in a card-like view. A bar at the bottom of the screen has little icons that lets users filter the information stream by network such as Facebook, Twitter or Flickr.

The phone also updates the address book with a contact’s latest social networking update. That means if you click on a name in your address book, you can see their last social-feed post and use it as a reference point while making the call.

What makes this experience slick is the way the cards rain down on the screen, offering an almost 3-D–like effect as they scroll past. Clicking on one of the cards pulls up the contact and their status update.

Rather than contribute to info clutter, Sony’s attempt to jazz it up by using better visual effects actually does make it easier to handle the information stream.

The UXP interface also introduces a concept called “infinite pivot” — an infinity-shaped icon that helps you drill deeper and pull up related views.

mediascape

Sony is also trying to offer a better experience for music, video and photos. The widget that controls this is called Mediascape. Click on the Mediscape icon and you get three options: My Music, My Videos and My Photos.

Music and videos are divided into recently played, recently added and favorites. There’s also access to PlayNow, Sony Ericsson’s music-downloads service.

A recommendation engine can suggest other artists or songs based on the music preferences of a user. Clicking on the infinite-pivot icon next to an artist’s name in music and videos offers suggestions and even searches the web.

And in a bid to keep the custom look throughout the phone, Sony redesigned the interface to services such as the phone dialer, calendar and alarm, says Arriola.

Overall, Sony Ericsson’s UXP skin for Android is not as confusing as the MotoBlur interface and more polished than the HTC Sense UI. Instead, UXP is a snappy, sophisticated treat. It works, though, only if you buy into the premise that instead of checking your Facebook and Twitter when you want to (as in the iPhone), you would like these services streamed and updated constantly to your phone.

Now if only they could get U.S. wireless carriers to offer Sony Ericsson phones on contract — and at prices slim enough to match the hardware.

XPERIA X10 Unboxing

To continue on what has become a good tradition it’s now time for unboxing of XPERIA X10 now when we have our first commercial samples here in the office. This time Gustaf is on vacation so my friend Mårten helped me out instead. We show the boxes for both colors of XPERIA X10 and also show a bit of what to expect in the box. We also tried to show a bit more of what the boxes look like since I guess most of you have seen quite a few videos of the phone by now :-)

The clip is shot with Vivaz so to get an HD-experience remember to click Watch on YouTube and select 720p. (This will also show a bit on the [b/continous auto focus working, it struggles a bit from time to time in indoor lighting but I think it does quite a good job! This time I also set white balance manually)

La Viva for the Vivaz

As for the earlier unboxings I’d like to remind about the fact that kit content differs between markets and service providers so there might be more things in the kit that will be available on your market.

SE Xperia X10 may come with Android 2.2

According to a spokesperson at Sony Ericsson's Asia launch of its new smartphones, the Android-based Xperia phones may get updated to Android 2.2 from their current Android 1.6 software in the second half of the year.

The phones in question are the same ones CNET Asia saw at the recent Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona and include the X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro. Earlier this year, the company had confirmed that the devices will enjoy an upgrade to a newer version of Android. We assumed this would be version 2.1 but were informed today that it "will be an Eclair variant, so it could be 2.1 or even 2.2", according to the spokesperson.

There have been rumors of Android 2.2, most significantly one about a certain HTC Scorpion originating from AndroidSpin. But this is the first time we're hearing about the existence of this version from a device manufacturer. The update timeframe isn't very specific, and could range from four to as distant as eight months from now.

Satu lagi video preview dari x10
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_JpWntHvkk

toh responsifnya sungguh AMAZING.

Ini mungkin sudah final version.

Welcome X10.

PS
X10 hanya kelihatan sdkt over brightness untuk mengimbanginnya.

wow.... nice news update..... cant wait loh oh april cepatlah datang

emmm... ini sih beberapa pemikiran gua yah, tapi gua bener2 lagi berpikir mengenai X10 ini (bukan berarti gajadi ambil sih, cuman pemikiran aja XD)

ok here goes :

1. upgrading the software to 2.x

apa timescape sama mediascapenya tetep dipertahankan? and is the upgrade FREE? karna menurut gua time-mediascape itu the heart of x10 so without it, it will be a "not so" sony erricson phone right? dan apakah upgrading buat early owner mesti bayar lagi? a little unfair no?

2. about data streaming

Jawaban

1. http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2010/03/09/xperia-x10-unboxing/comment-page-3/#comments

aku quote saja

Hi all! Great discussion here! Glad to see that it’s kept nice and polite even though the subjects are hot! :-)

Regarding the colorspace in the screens I’m sorry for the confusion in our external communication! From what I’ve read Android 1.6 (which is the release SW for all the X10s) limits the number of colors to 65k. Sumit wrote the following in the post where he announced the selected people for the research program.

“Ps. I see that colors are still discussed due to unclear information from our side. The Xperia X10, X10 mini, X10 mini pro all support 16M colors, hardware wise. Software wise there are limitations from the OS and what the future upgrades will imply on leveraging screen capability is not visible to me at this point. We will let you know as soon I have something to share.”

Regarding the discussions on release Android version most of you have valid points in both directions and I just want to confirm that of course I, and many of my colleagues, read all your input here and in other forums and it will surely be important input on how to focus going forward. We do listen. As Sumit wrote in the xperia X10 will be upgradeable-post these kind of products will get recurring updates over time and newer versions of Android are of course an important part of that. And in addition the UX platform will also over time evolve further in other aspects than just OS version.

so kemunkinan Time/media scapenya bisa berkembang juga., termasuk untuk si mini dan mini pro kedepanna.

2. aku mencoba memahamin isi pertanyaan bro,

hooooo... thanks bro chen

jadi kira2 gini yah :

1. x10 support 16M color jadi tinggal tergantung OSnya aja bisa support apa nggak.

2. new release will be automatically upgraded ke 2.x (tapi buat yang lama gimana yah)

Tapi klo cuman browsing, cek email schedule 5mnit sekali, FB an, twitr sperti fasilitas di X10, kayaknya cukup sih 500mb sebulan. Kecuali klo sering liat video lewat Youtube,
